SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND MANAGERIAL ETHICS


·         What is social obligation?
Social obligation involves a firm engaging in social actions because of its obligation to meet certain economic and legal responsibility.

·         What is social responsiveness?
Social responsiveness involves a firm engaging in social actions in response to some popular social need. 

·         What is social responsibility?
Social responsibility is a business’s intention to pursue long-term goals that are good for society.

·         What is socioeconomic view?
The view that management’s social responsibility goes beyond making profits and includes protecting and improving society’s welfare.

·         What is green management?
A form of management in which managers consider the imoact of their organization on the natural environment.

·         What is ethics?
Ethics refers to the principles, values, and beliefs that define right and wrong decisions and behavior.

·         What are the factors that influence wheteher a person behaves ethically or unethically?
The factors that affect ethical and unethical behavior are:
1.       An individual’s level of moral development (proconventional, conventional, or principled)
2.       Individual characteristics (values and personality variables—ego strength and locus control)
3.       Strutural variables (structural design, use of goals, performance appraisal systems, and reward allocation procedures)
4.       Organizational culture (shared values and cultural strength)
5.       Issue intensity (greatness of harm, consensus of wrong, probability of harm, immediacy of consequences, proximity to victims, and concentration of effect)

·         What managers need to know about international ethics?
Because ethical standards are not universal, managers should know what they can do and can not do legally, according to the laws of their home countries. It is also important to recognize any cultural differences and to clarify ethical guidelines for managers and employees.
